OOC: I am assuming from the description that only one leg is chained and arms are free. Is that right?
The manacle chain is set fast to
Koch's left ankle by a bulky lock, and anchored to the wall. The chain rattles as
Koch tugs at it, but is held as firmly as ever.

Copernicus knows best indeed, but Kirby? Now there's a dubious fellow if ever
Nidhogg met one...

KOCH
"Well met, under the circumstances, Nidhogg. It is nice to have someone to speak with after so much time spent alone," Koch says with another futile tug on his manacle's chain.
Koch realizes that Nidhogg may be his best chance of escape, so he tries to nudge Nidhogg's sense of uncertainty, "A prisoner's cellar does seem a strange place to keep an old friend. You spoke of a 'band of ruffians' you had fallen in with. Did you have a falling out with Saxxon and Copernicus that lead you to join up with this other group?"

Nidhogg seems pre-occupied for a moment longer, scarcely visible to Koch as he peers into the darker gloom as if discerning invisible details.
Turning about, his Dwarfish eyes spy a loose pile of goods tumbled into one of the broken crates, hardly an arm's reach away...

Nidhogg begins to examine the broken crates. "Saxxon!" he spits into the darkness. " That fool. Why trust an ogre over some of your kin? Even if they were adventurers. I told him! Ally with the men! So I left Saxxon's men and fought with the ruffians. I hope they are well Copernicus would be forced to violence if they continued our plan."

KOCH
KOCH briefly smiles to himself and hopes that he can actually convince Nidhogg to help him. "It seems you have good reason to hold a grudge against Saxxon and his men. But it also seems that Saxxon has reason to hold a grudge against you. Placing you down here with me, may be Saxxon's way of keeping you out of the coming fight."
KOCH takes a deep breath, knowing that his next words may very well determine his fate.
"If your friends are attacking now, then the brigands are likely not guarding the cellars well. Now may be the best time to leave this cellar and attempt to help your friends. If you can somehow get this manacle off my leg, I will be in your debt and more than willing to help you and your friends Nidhogg."

"Copernicus asked me to stay here not Saxxon! I'd sooner face a pack of orcs than do what Saxxon wants. But ... they are in trouble. Almost the whole fort is loose looking for them. Save those already slain. KIRBY!" Nidhogg rushes to the door bellowing. "KIRBY! BRING COPERNICUS I MUST SEE HIM!" He begins to pound on the door.

KOCH
KOCH feels that his best chance of escape may have passed, but he quickly presses on in hopes to convince the dwarf to free him.
"Nidhogg, surely you know that Copernicus is the brains of the operation. What Saxxon wants is what Copernicus wants. If Copernicus wants you down here, then it is likely to keep you from helping your friends," KOCH stops to take a quick breath, "Tread lightly with Copernicus, your friends life and your own may depend on it. Please, let me help you."
