Brebert relinquishes the doorway, backing up just enough that both he and one of his companions can hold the door as a bottleneck and limit them to attacking one at a time. Muhali steps up beside him. Gret is ready to step in, if need be. Aolis moves so that she can see the action and cast Sleep if necessary.

Apparently, these jokers don't know about the pit, eh?

If there's room for three to attack, Gret will join in.

By sheer bad luck, they do not trigger the trap as they rush across the room. Muhali and Brebert trap one in the doorway, but fail to damage the bird-man, but Gret strikes from the second rank with his spear between Muhali and Brebert, and pokes out the bird brain, sending him crashing to the ground. The other bird man swipes ineffectually at Brebert
MECHANICS
Trap triggered ? <1d6> = 4 NO
Trap triggered ? <1d6> = 3 NO
Muhali rolls a 2 MISS
Brebert rolls a 9 MISS
Gret rolls a 13 HIT for <1d6+1>= 7 damage, killing it
Second bird man at Brebert, 9 MISS

Muhali and Gret haul the bodies into the room, while Brebert resumes his vigil at the door. They first confirm whether or not the beast-men are actually half-bird or just wearing costumes. Then they search the bodies for valuables. Are the chain hauberks salvageable?

The bird appendages are real - these are big goblins with heads, feet and hands replaced by eagle parts! The mail armor is indeed salvageable, and on their bodies you find a pouch with some dried strips of meat, and some gold. Between the two you find 18 gold pieces

What's the possible value of the armor? Trying to decide if it's worth returning to the surface now or stashing the armor and continuing.

Muhali and Gret carry one suit of armor each.
Muhali pockets the gold for now.
Gret dumps the bodies on the pit trap.
Party moves carefully around the pit trap and back into the hallway. Gret watches to the south as Aolis listens at the north and west doors. If she hears nothing, Aolis examines both doors for traps.
