With some effort now, Armando is hauled up to safely.

Armando is scarcely hauled up before scrambling to his feet and exhorting his fellows to lower the rope. "Quickly now — all haste! Josiane remains below with the shadows. I fear her hold over them may wane ..."

Highbough is developing a soft spot for Josiane; the old Elf finds her less irratating that most other humans. He ignores the shiny baubles for the moment and focuses his full attention on rope duty.

Knowing that Josiane is alone below, Dorgan will summon the dregs of his strength to help on the rope.
Alas, just the act of rising to his feet is enough to leave him shaking and weary...
"Get her back up here," he intones earnestly.

Olaf drops the rope back down the shaft as quickly as he can!
"Let's pray it's not too late!"

After what seems an eternity, there comes a tug at the rope and our team haul for all they are worth!
And at last Josiane rejoins the party, and she appears unharmed.

"Hurrah!" Olaf shouts softly at seeing Josiane coming up out of the hole.
"I'm glad you were able to escape whatever evil you were holding back down there." Olaf says with a smile.

"As am I,"
Josiane replies, gratefully accepting a hand up; "By the White Lady, I have walked in some dark places since I came to these Hinterlands, but that pit was
fell."
She smiles up at
Olaf, perhaps holding onto his hand a fraction of a second longer than she has to.
"Thank you."
But then her focus is on those she went to rescue.
"How fare our wounded?
Dieter?
Dorgan? How is it with you?"
She hastens to her Dwarf friend's side.

"Did the shadows speak to you?" queries Highbough. What marvelous stories the ancient dead could tell!

Dorgan sinks back to the ground and blows out his mustaches with a mighty sigh.
"I'm well, thanks ta you. Sorry I've forced you ta make a practice of saving my life but I'm def'nitely grateful, Miss. Me 'n the undead dinnae seem ta get along. I'm gonna need someone ta carry the Marrowstone though, and my flask. Could I trouble ya to tote my things 'till I get another sack?"
