Beetle Battle Round 4
It's a flatfooted exchange, both sides holding their ground and lobbing missiles at each other.
Dougal finishes off the wounded beetle with a precise sling shot.
In a simultaneous volley, Dame Simonetta badly wounds the final beetle, while it hits her in the knees with a well-aimed sesame bomb. The Dame feels her legs crumple and has a flashback to the time she ate too much sesame brittle at the holiday party. She will be stunned for 1 round.
Dame Simonetta's lantern drops from her hand and clatters across the stone floor. Which way will it roll? Will it stay lit? Will it go out? The dice will decide, tune in next time!
There is 1 beetle left, at the edge of the shadows. What next? Speak up if you want to forego your attack and make a grab at the lantern.
Sling attacks
Dougal 18 hit for 6hp finishing the wounded beetle!
Kiplyn 9, miss
Noh 4, miss
Dame Simonetta 16 hit for 6hp wounding the last beetle!
Tet 13, miss
simultaneous beetle attacks
7, 19
random target = Dame Simonetta
She takes 3hp damage, dropping her to 2/8, and fails her save vs paralysis with a roll of 6.
What happens to the lantern? We'll dice for it next time...

Catch the light! Kiplyn cries out once he notices Dame Simonetta drop the lantern. He will try to rescue it before it goes. If he fails he will grab a torch form his pack and work on getting it lit.

Kiplyn makes a miraculous save, and the lantern stays lit! (This action will be in place of his Round 5 attack.)
Let's use Kip's thief skills!
Slight of hand 1d6=6
Nice job. He picked that lantern's pockets.

With a surge of energy brought on by his last kill, Dougal slings another smooth stone, hoping to end the confrontation...

Beetle Battle Round 5
The final beetle's missile attack sails wide as it succumbs to a hail of sling stones from Dougal, Noh, and Willie.
The aroma of sesame seeds hangs in the air as the tahini beetles give their final death twitches.
The Beetle Battle is over! Three of the party members are wounded: Tet 3/6, Willie 6/9, and Dame Simonetta 2/8. Tet has a potion of cure light wounds. A friendly reminder about our experimental house rule, that Hobbets can spend 1 rest turn eating 1 day's rations to regain 1 lost hit point. To make it fun, please specify a food-type, and let's say that whichever food you specify, that's it for the rest of the adventure. So for example if you eat an apple to get a hit point back, that was the party's last fresh apple, and apples are off the menu.
I would prefer not to do mandatory post-combat rest turns any more, unless you all feel strongly. Reason being, I don't like curtailing player choice. "We push on, despite the fatigue!" seems like a valid genre trope and I'd hate to take that option away from the players. Since I can't see any specified penalty in the RAW for skipping rest turns, why make them mandatory? I'd prefer to make rest turns optional and fun.
Party attacks:
Dougal 10, 17 hit for 2hp
Kiplyn saving the lantern
Noh 13, 20 hit for 3hp
Dame Simonetta stunned
Tet 8, 3
Willie 15, 5 hit for 3hp
Beetle attacks:
Beetle 7 miss

"Phew, what strange exudations! Rather interesting, despite the mess." Dame Simonetta says to no-one in particular.
"It's got me in the mood for sweet buns," she adds as she digs the last one out of her pack. "Just give a moment to catch my breath."
