The passage way continues ahead, straight and true for a ways into the dark, and in the gloom ahead can just barely be spied (by Elvish eyes) what might be a door arch on the right hand side of the passage.
"Let us have light before we proceed yonder," Lmluin whispers softly in Sindarin to Elindir; "Agreed?"

So, is anybody going to shimmy up the rope and attempt to fuel and light the beacon? Or devise some other means of reaching it?

Elindir appears eager to proceed, but without light doing so would be madness...

Lmluin's blue eyes search out the Hobbits lurking in the shadows.

"Master Banks? Master Harfoot? The time to show the worth of the Halfling Folk is more than come." He nods up at the great lantern; "This task is appointed to you, I fancy..."

"Dear Hobbit friends, I have great respect for your kind. What you did to destroy the ring will forever be remembered. I for one an pleased to have you by my side in Moria!", says Lady ‰ohild to the hobbits.

Lmluin manages (albeit barely) to stifle a snort. He forces all signs of exasperation from his face. The Lady of the Rohirrim's plan is a good one and he knows it.

He continues his watch on the Eastern corridor. You'd have to look hard to see his foot tapping impatiently...

Eohild and Soval, a pair of strong fighters, move to a position beneath the ancient beacon, and thereunder place their hands upon one another's shoulders to form a steady platform.

Then Nat Pickthorn assists first Baraglin Banks, and then Largo Harfoot up onto the shoulders of the warriors.

The Hobbits titter and teeter, but eventually Baraglin finds a steady position astride Soval and Eohild's shoulders, and Largo -- clinging grimly to Eremin's line -- manages to clamber onto the Hobbit's shoulders, forming the peak of a precarious pyramid.

"Pass me up some oil now," Largo squeaks, clinging to the lip of the beacon for support...
