Ron might be skipping ahead, but I was referencing the end of the 4th Age of Man, which happened 300 years prior to the DL setting.

I guess my comment should have been something more like...

Wraislin... keeps himself positioned where he can unleash cataclysmic magical energies with a mere flick of his wrist (if necessary).

I may have read one of those books, and half a module, a couple decades ago. So I really don't know what I'm talking about

Quick overview... The gods got mad dropped a flaming mountain on the world... That was the "cataclysm", and no more clerics. Later in the books (in alternate timeline because they screw with time) Rastalin also destroys the world because he is just that good.

if Thanis is taking another round of missile fire then Flin probably has enough time to get another Axe throw in before he is into melee range

LOL! Thanks Ehiker, you're right.
It's true I am torn between OD&D's dwarven thrower (a hammer), and DL#1 Flint's axe. Hopefully, before the end of this session it will be decided

For now I've edited it back to an axe...

If it helps you decide I like the idea of an axe more

re Flin's AXE: It shall be so!

re posting in general: you can help me keep it ticking along by posting affirmatively in the IC section. I.e., stating what your character actually does or says in game. Posting what you might do in certain circumstance can lead to the awkward situation where everyone is waiting on something but no one actually triggers it to happen

For now I'm hearing that those at the moathouse want to do missile fire again...

Tass, Witherun, and Goldwen hear distant cries ahead, and hustle to catch up with the others at the moat house...

Meanwhile.

"We're under attaaaaaaaaaaack!" cries one of them, as the remaining four guards raise shields and fall back below the arch (which is scarcely 30ft deep).

Thanis, Garamon, and Flin loose missiles, striking their targets unerringly. Men are pieced by arrow, spear, and whirling axe, but none are downed as they beat a hasty retreat through the arch and out onto the broad, stone causeway beyond. Harsh voices rise from the opposite moat house, and figures are seen scurrying to action.

All the while Stern strides grimly toward them, drawing his gleaming two-handed blade in one menacing motion...

More missile fire from 50 yd (plus whatever distance they have fallen back) range.

No surprise this time. Thanis and Flin both have +1 to hit for their magic weapons; Garamon does not.
Medium range for Flin and Garamon, and short range for Thanis (a +1 to hit adjustment).

Thanis (stealthy hero; THAC2 14): 1d20=14+1+1 = 16 vs AC 6 is a hit. 1d6=4 hp damage. Dice for hp: d6+1=6; 2 hp remaining.
Flin (strong hero-1; THAC2 15): 1d20=9+1 = 10 vs AC 6 is a hit. 1d6+1=5 hp damage. Dice for hp: d6+1=6; 1 hp remaining.
Garamon (hardy hero; THAC2 14): 1d20=17 = 10 vs AC 6 is a hit. 1d6+1=4 hp damage. Dice for hp: d6+1=6; 2 hp remaining.

What now?

How long til the rest of the party catch up? tempting to just charge the remaining damaged guys

Garamon joins Stern in moving towards melee with the magic spear. He'd nod in agreement with a charge, and engage!

Assuming missiling is over at this point.

Goldwen breaks into a run at the sounds of men screaming. "Hurry, " she urges the other two on, "I hear fighting!"
