Possession is only nine tenths of the law

The dwarfs are relatively quiet in these parts. The dwarf hold which Dorgan hails from is somewhat north of Maine; approximately a two week trip from Ket--if the roads can be trusted.

I believe the phrase is, "Posession IS nine tenths of the law", implying that having possession of something is to your benefit when determining rightful ownership.
In any case, Desmond is not speaking in terms of permanence, but only while they are using the abbey as a base of operations until the sisters are restored. It would be silly to not take advantage of the security of the vault while we are there.

I know most of our cash was left back in Ket, so I don't know if we have the silver to buy silvered weapons. What are our finances like Ways?

I was trying to imply to imply that it's not our heroes who are presently in possession of the abbey or the vault... but no matter; it was just a remark.
Regarding finances; the high level overview is that you were more-or-less skint when you left left Ket, and haven't secured any vast sums of coin since then. According to my records Olaf had 50sp and gained 8gp, 17sp, 10cp as his share of the abbey loot. Minus whatever he has traded for the Quartermaster's goods.

The elves are as pragmatic as any other people, but let's not forget the whole company has been living off Gallaine's largess for a week now, and given basic arms and three more weeks stores !
In fact elves don't have silver weapons to peddle; they are willing to construct them for you--melting down silver that you supply to go into the new blades--if these are desired.

Yes, I know. I'm just playing Beringar as one who's been tricked one time too many, and as a result, he has problems with believing that people can be kind and generous. -Even when it is very obvious, such as in this case. Also, while he might know a thing or two about farming and warfare, he'll readily scoff at the more exotic monsters as children's tales and so on.
I'm betting he'll learn the hard way that he's wrong soon, though.

According to my records Josiane had 2sp when she left Ket, and then gained 8gp, 17sp, 10cp as her share of the abbey loot.
Total value 48 + 19 + 1.67 = 68.67sp
Minus whatever she has traded for the Quartermaster's goods.
