I approve of Dhren's placement in both marching order and watch rotation. Thanks, Ehiker.

I believe this structure pre-dates the abbey, as does the pit with the shadows. The abbey needed a trap for the reliquary, the builders found the pit, and went ahead and used it, but I think it was already there.

Either the people who picked the area for the abbey had really bad luck or they have been infiltrated for a very long time and the site was picked on purpose.

My suppositions, anyway.
Yeah, it's my supposition too that the pit and this ring structure, long, pre-date the abbey. I rather think the abbey was built over ruins from long, long ago and all of this down here was uncovered by whatever took it over recently. I suspect the evil force knew what was here and went after the abbey for that reason, but that's just supposition, of course.

Apologies for the short pause folks; been a bit busy.

So from what I can see in game, we now have a new group forming up to investigate the unexplored stair opposite the library. I will create a new thread for this activity and post it up shortly (after some lunch)...

I believe it might just be the whole of the active party, WOTE, though I think some of us did some closer examinations just before that decision was made.

Yes, I'll be using the new thread as a "mechanism" for getting all the currently active players into one thread together. The inactive PCs will stay behind, either in the Ring Room, or else in the kitchens with the NPCs/inactive PCs.

Apologies coffee; I missed your earlier query from when Hiridren first arrived:
coffee wrote:Dieter, likewise, does not immediately trust the stranger. He turns his sword in the new elf's direction.

(Does he get any inklings or anything from the sword now?)
Alas, no. Nothing.

When we first descended the stairs, Dorgan noted that it "predates the upper works by decades, if not centuries". I do not know if we ever identified the stairway down as "new" construction but it was described as "rough and ready" which, to me at any rate, implies that it might have been recently constructed — especially in light of the tools and construction oddments in the room at the bottom of the stairs.

PS trying to keep posting — my internet access is somewhat limited at the moment.

This is precisely correct.

The basal is a much older place than the abbey above it. The stair leading down from the chapel into the basal was a virtually new.

I don't mind Dhren checking out the stairs a bit. He could go down say, 10 or 20' ahead of the party, using his racial quietness, holding his torch as far behind him as he can and sword out front and at the ready. He'd be listening hard, and would ask the party members to remain a bit quiet so he can hear well. He'd be stepping lightly on the floorstones and feeling for settling or triggering feelings before putting weight on them, and moving slowly so he can see wires at foot or neck and things, and generally moving with great caution.

If he saw by torchlight that He's about to reach the terminus of the stairs, he'd set the torch down so it casts light to just that point and move to the door etc and listen in quietly before returning to the group to report what He's found. Or, shout his head off, if he's attacked haha.

Sound ok Fellas?

Sorry for the double-post, fellas.

Hey, if you guys don't mind, does anyone mind if I map? Even if Dhren isn't the fellow holding the mapping gear in character?

I've finally figured out how to hand-draw maps, get pics on my phone, and get them onto my PC for digital upload onto a forum. As long as I take the pics outside in good, natural daylight, they come out good and are very readable.

...And it's fun 8-)
