Pelenwin puts his grubby hand upon the door knob and, grim faced, turns it abruptly. With a subtle creak it turns, and frees the door upon its hinges. When there is no sound from beyond, Pelenwin pulls the door inward...

Pelenwin slow walks down the dark passage, pole axe readied in hand. "By the Seal, my comrades, let us quench these brigands," Pelenwin whispers.

Pelewin marches down the narrow passage, his great axe almost too tall to fit diagonally in the space. Ulric follows, with his lantern, then Dieter and Mads.

The passage traverses some 20ft to a slight bend to the right, and then another 20ft of the same, before coming to a door arch which opens into a low, dusty store room of some kind. The chamber is mayhap 30 or 40ft long, and slightly less wide. It is cluttered with crates, racks and frame for storage, although much of it appears dusty and empty. Most interestingly, the ceiling is quite low -- just above head height, and made of timber boards.

It is all a lot to take in at a glance...

It is a lofty dream indeed... to be the master of a gate house. Looking around at the stonework, it is apparent even to the old Elf that the place is in need of some serious maintenance and repairs. All in good time though...

Moving into the low space, it soon becomes apparent that there are crates, racks, and piles of timbers organised into rows with isles between them. The isles are perpendicular to the arch by which the company entered, which is why they were not immediately obvious.

Moving to the first row of wooden crates, Pelenwin sees now that they are stacked atop one another so that the opening of one box faces this way, and the next that way. Thus they for a make-shift series of shelves. On this side many of them are empty but for dust and cobwebs. But some have something in them, wait... what his this? Pelenwin reaches into one crate and pulls out... an old sack? No, a piece of coloured fabric? As the dust falls off it he realises it is a brightly coloured shirt. Another box as a few gaudy of hats in it. Another extravagant neck ruffs. And what are these here? A bizarre collection of wigs? This is odd indeed.

Meanwhile, Ulric spies that there is a wooden stair ascending in the far right corner of the room...
