Sorry, I thought he had already opened the eastern door, to the hat room

Yes, Maloof is definitely inside the hat room. But I thought there was another exit on the eastern wall of the hat room?

Hearing nothing, he opens onto a 20' square room. This room is painted in a zebra pattern. There is a hat with brightly coloured feathers sticking from it on a shelf by the opposite entrance
(Emphasis mine)
Perhaps you meant to type "on a shelf opposite the entrance". I guess there aren't any other exits from the hat room in that case?

It seems to be coming roughly

By the way, when he puts the hat on his head, he hears the soft sound of a distant flute
Maloof will pause to attempt to locate the direction from which the flute sound is coming. He'll try moving back out into the corridor to determine if the sound gets louder or more faint.
It seems to be coming roughly from the north west. It might be getting louder, hard to tell

Franklin makes way for the floating hat.

While Maloof is invisible, and wearing the hat, the hat is also invisible

Maloof removes his ring of invisibility for the benefit of his companions, and explains about the flute sounds. He wants to try to track down the source of the sounds (if such a thing is possible), and suggests we continue northwards and westwards along the main corridor. While doing so, he will attempt to determine any changes in the music.

Franklin shares Maloof's curiosity to investigate the phantom pipering from the west. Balbo and Drogo have been keeping watch in that direction. Did they see or hear anything unusual?

Nothing out of the ordinary yet. We'll see if Nailus or Aldbane has anything to add

Adlbane agrees with finding the source of the flute sounds. Assuming we proceed north and west along the main corridor, he and Bannon fall into the marching order.
Is Maloof the only one who can hear the flute?

Yes, only Maloof hears it

The 20' wide corridor goes a total of 90'. Then it hits a 20' wide intersection, with 20' wide corridors going north and south, before continuing west.

Looking north, the corridor has a 20' wide opening on the west wall, starting at the 40' mark.

Looking south, there is a door on the east wall at the 40' mark. On the west wall, there appear to be some tapestries as the corridor continues

Looking west, the corridor continues 40', then encounters another 4-way crossroads with 20' in width for all corridors. In the exact middle of the north and south walls are a door

Assuming Maloof lets us know about the sound, we should stop at each intersection and try to determine where the sound is becoming louder. If not able to, suggest he goes a little way down each corridor to see if the sound increases or fades. If he wants to do this invisibly, I suggest we tie a rope around one of his feet so we can track him, just in case he suddenly is entranced by the sound and follows it without telling us.
