The Camp Site
(Envongr)

Some time later... Envongr open one bleary eye. Strangely, he's looking up at a blue sky. There are some dry grasses rustling in a gentle breeze nearby... wha?

He jerks suddenly awake, remembering the day's activity in a rush. The Dwarf and the mule have gone!

Looking hastily about, he spies the d**nable abbey a hundred yards up the side of the hill, wherein all his fellows seem to have vanished. But wait... what's that? There seem to be half a dozen dogs pacing and sniffing around the front door.

Envongr strides out of the former camp site, and up the rocky slope toward the abbey's front gate.

It's quite a little way, a few score yards at least, and while he's on the approach he sees the majority of the dogs slip into the abbey. Someone must have left the door ajar!

But before he gets all there way there, the last dog suddenly turns its head and looks directly at him with intense yellow eyes. It bares its fangs and growls awfully at him. That ain't no dog... it's a wolf!

What now?

Envongr is very confused. He decides to walk into the abbey, weapon drawn, and kill any wolf who threatens him.

The wolf is between Envongr and the door; so it looks like he's gonna have to fight his way in!

(initiative is rolled, 1d6; Envongr=1, wolf=2. Wolf 1d20=7, miss. Envongr 1d20=9, miss.)

The weight of the mail upon his shoulders and the military pick in his hand is a great comfort as the snarling wolf leaps to attack. Envongr counter charges as it leaps and they clash mid-air! The wolf's fearsome bite is turned by the haft of his pick, but twists his own blow awry. The pair of them land simultaneously and turn immediately to face one another again...

The wolf, a scrawy bag of bones, snaps viciously at Envongr again, using it's speed and cunning. But it's no match for the big man, and he puts the spike of his pick-axe through it's skull, pinning it to the earth with a sickening crunch. It exhales one final time through its nostrils, then its body goes limp and there is silence.

Hmmph.

Reveling in his success, Envongr grimly strides up to the abbey door and (boldly?) steps inside to find the way barred by a veritable pack of wolves!

At least half a dozen of them immediately turn their yellow glares to him and bare their hungry fangs. No way Envongr knows one man could beat them all...

There is but a moment to react. What now?
