Meanwhile, Highbough has decided to enact Ulric's plan to bar access to the gatehouse from the dungeon level by means of an arcane enchantment which he does know.

The nearest such access is the stair in the north-west tower, which is just off the mess hall where everyone is right now (bar Dieter, Olaf and Andaros, who have marched off into the rain...).

"There is not much daylight left, friends, so you go on without me. I will stay behind and see to the tower's defenses. Dieter, may I borrow your grappling hook and rope once more?"

Highbough's plan:

1. Trammel the ground-level door on the South-East tower.

2. Carry some heavy junk to the roof top.

3. Trammel the door on the North-West tower, from the inside.

4. Retreat to the rooftop and weight the two trap doors.

5. Stand guard on the rooftop, stoically in the rain, watching for the cart-party's return, ready to lower the rope if a quick escape route is needed.

OOC: Dieter would have left both his grappling hook and his crowbar here; he'll be heavily laden enough on his way back anyway...

Highbough approaches the dormitory stair door in the south-east corner with Pelenwin in tow, but fortunately there is no immediate call for "protection".

He stands before the heavy door and begins a low chant in the guttural infernal tongue. Pelenwin's skin crawls as the chant becomes a forceful command and the old Elf's eyes burn a moment with yellow, gold, amber. Then the door slams forcefully shut and Highbough's hair is blown back as if by a wind from the abyss itself.

Satisfied, Highbough looks around for some heavy gear to cart up the north-west tower. Truth be told, there isn't much to hand that would serve beyond one of the long tables form the mess hall, or else one of the bunks from the dormitory. But hauling either of these up the narrow, spiral stair would be extremely difficult to say the least!

Perhaps some makeshift carpentry up top would serve better?

"So Copernicus was part of the Saxxon gang? Well that is troubling," Ulric mutters as he searches for tools. "What do you know of the man Wibert? What were his abilities? Was he able to move incredibly fast and climb walls? Gustave, can you remember what you told this Copernicus? Anything about us?"

"Good thinking, Ulric," says Highbough, somewhat spent from the casting.
