Aldbane and Bannon follow, with Bannon keeping watch while Maloof searches for a door.

Franklin prepares for combat (in case the flute-tootlers aren't friendly).

How could you think that?

As Maloof pokes and prods and peers, the wall in front of him disappears, to reveal a 10' long corridor leading into a 20' square room. At the south end of the room is a bizarre statue, maybe 8' high. The top half of the statue is a woman's body, the lower half is coiled snake, and it has six arms, all holding swords. At the base of the statue is a chest

Despite the ominous statue, Maloof strolls forward (still wearing his jaunty new hat!) and approaches the chest. "I thank you for keeping guard," he says aloud to the statue, "and now I shall reclaim my rightful property. Nevermind my change of appearance, there has been an unfortunate mishap, but rest assured it is me." Keeping watch on the statue out of the corner of his eye, he tentatively begins to open the chest...

(If at any time he spots any movement from the statue, he'll leap back out of range).

If the statue tries to harm Maloof then it will receive three sling stones to the face! (I will assume unless the DM says otherwise, there is no risk of friendly fire to aim high over Maloof's head, since the statue is more than thrice his height.)

Aldbane and Bannon stand on either side of the 10' corridor, peering in as Maloof approaches the statue. They can quickly enter the room in the event of an attack or other trouble.

I think I would impose the -4 to hit penalty, because you are taking care not to hit Maloof, but I believe hobbits get +3 to missile fire, and you get +1 to short range, so it should all even out

The blades attack! Apparently, Maloof's invisibility has no effect on the statue

DM: I will give Maloof a saving throw vs Wands to jump out of the way in time, otherwise I will roll six attacks
Maloof needs 11 or better, rolls a 9 - failure
The six arms need a 7 or better to hit, rolls are 3 10 17 5 19 1, Maloof is hit 3 times for 12 damage, bringing him down to 3 hit points left

The statue has now come to life, with a flesh-coloured torso and dark green scaly snake bottom

If the party can re-state actions, would be great
