In a way he can't quite define, it does look different than the rest of the paint

Golgildir claps some dust into the air to see whether an invisible laser beam may be projected from the red star... Failing that, he moves around the outside of the columns, if practical, to see whether the red star appears any differently from differing vantages within the room...

Aldbane enters and examines the columns closely for anything unusual, starting with those on the east.
