Dorgan's Room at the Manse
Dorgan

Dorgan spends the afternoon contemplating the Marrowstone. He has heard tales of these wonderful things from uncles and elders in his younger days... he can scarcely believe that he has his hands on one now.

But what to do with it...?

He stares at it, manipulates it in ever way he can conceive, contemplates it and meditates on it for long hours... but all for naught! Eventually he falls asleep with the Marrowstone clutched tightly to his chest.

(1d6=6!)

Some hours later Dorgan awakes from a very strange dream. The shadows of evening are gathering outside, but somehow he just knows something more of earth and of stone in general, and of the hundred thousand year life history of one mountain in particular. Dorgan feels greatly heartened by this knowledge.

The Marrowstone is a living, elemental thing. It feels subtly warmer, lightly and more content to him.

Highbough is frustrated by his failed research and devises all manner of torments for the captive Guore. He hardly touches his supper and retires early to study the notebook some more. He falls asleep, exhausted, with the book in his hand.

On their walk back to the manse, Ulric shares what he learned about the shackle with Highbough.

"It is simple enough magic. It keeps him asleep as long as it is locked. Unfortunately it will take a spell of opening to unlock it. I have no such knowledge. Do you?"

"Water! ha! indeed" replies Gustave, chuckling along with Josiane's little joke, but also somewhat perplexed about her lack of interest in his barrel/skin delimma.

Secretly, he steels himself to make the necessary decision when the time comes, humoring the 'practical' issues relating to mules and 'economics' in the meantime.

"Well then, clearly your pragmatic side is more ascendent than mine, my dear
", he adds, "I shall follow your lead!"

Gustave will also drop in to visit Hans about his previous ordered shield during the outing.

Highbough replies to Ulric: "I know a spell of closing called The Trammel. A clever mind might engineer a reverse form of this spell, to open that which is closed?"

Dorgan will emerge from his room with a smile on his face that won't go away.

Even when he peeks into the room holding their Guore captive, the grin fades but slightly.

Assuming all is unchanged with the dark dwarf, he'll head downstairs afterward and scout the kitchen for something to nibble on, until all return for dinner.

The Marrowstone never leaves his grasp.

Gustave (with Josiane's permission) makes the following purchases;

trail rations 2 weeks per person = 18 weeks
waterskins (to please the lady) x 5
Torches x 10
Hemp rope x 2
Backpack x 2
Sack x 5

He organises for these goods to be delivered to the manse.

He then goes in search of some real supplies (ie cheese and wine) via Hans's place to enquire about his shield.

Ulric nods.

"I too know this incantation. Two clever minds might be able to devise such a counterspell even faster, though it still may take a full day or more. We can propose this course to the group."

Josiane suggests adding a few flasks of oil might be in order, and perhaps a days worth of iron rations per person (we're bound to end up underground at some point!)

She also sees about feed for Murphy, assuming the worthy beast will be accompanying them to help haul all this stuff...
