Is Highbough going to continue with his plan to trammel the second stair door from the inside , shutting himself, the timber and wood inside the tower stair? Will Koch go with him, or remain outside the door?

It is raining steadily outside, and there can't be much more than an hour's gloomy light left in the day. Standing vigil on the roof top in the wind and rain with dusk coming is not a terribly appealing thought...

Highbough is loathe on principle to concede the high ground in a fight, but wisely (Wis 15, Con 5) decides to spend the night indoors with the rest of the group. He will keep his Trammels in reserve to lock the party in for the night when the cart-seekers have returned.

He spends the last hour of daylight on the rooftop, watching and listening for the return of the search party, and setting traps and snares along the catwalks, using whatever spare materials are at hand. He marks their position on his map, to show the others.

Highbough carries the rope and grappling hook on his person, so that he can escape down the wall if necessary.

KOCH will also spend the night indoors. Once the various traps are set, he will re-enter the mess hall and help Wibert prepare food for the night, excited at the opportunity of three square meals in one day.

Very well.

Highbough clambers up the narrow stone stair, and pushes up the trapdoor hatch to emerge on the roof top.

It is wet, cold, gusty and generally miserable out in the weather, and Highbough tugs his black cloak tighter about him, trying to stay dry... but he knows he will be wet through before half an hour is gone.

With water dripping off him, he surveys the damp, gloomy landscape all about... all appears to be quiet. And wet. At least nobody is moving within reach of an Old Elf's eye.

Now he scans about the cat walk looking for anything that might make a decent trap... there are a few loose pieces of stone and timber lying about, as well as quite a few loose and missing slate shingles on the room of the mess hall (now under his gaze).

How exactly, and where exactly, does Highbough propose to construct his snare?

Meanwhile (inside) Pelenwin stands guard at the base of the stair as Highbough vanishes up it. He keeps a careful ear out for any sound of anyone coming up from below... but so far so good. Nothing to report.

Koch heads back into the mess hall, and then the kitchen where he finds Wibert has a warm, kitchen fire going and is happily poking about in the kitchen, cleaning up a few bowls and dishes from the previous meal and musing on whether or not he might be able to put together a vegetable pie with what is at hand...

Dunno, I'm not a hunter in real life.
Highbough will balance some scrap metal and stones on the edge of the trap door (does he still have the bucket?) so if anyone opens them we'll at least hear them coming.

That's why you only have to describe it rather than actually doing it

Excellent.

Highbough is rather strong despite his wiry size, and is able to haul a couple of loose stones from the brittle battlement, over to each of the two towers whose stairs descend to the dungeon level.

Then he balances two rocks in a pile atop each trap-door so that if anyone were to open either side of the hatch, the stones would topple over, and hopefully fall into the stair and onto whoever opened the trapdoor.

He has the broken tin bucket with him... it contains a dozen of so iron nails.
