With all the violent movement, the dim light, and the menacing Troll right in front of her, it is hardly surprising that
Eohild cannot see
Barald.
Barald is still positioned near
Soval and his mercenaries who were all rear-most in the original marching order. He is the capital
B on the scratch map.
Note also that there isn't always room for everyone to attack simultaneously -- although spears could attack large Trolls from the second rank...

Then he engages the foe himself with sword and shield (preferably from the rear...)

Initiative is rolled (1d6; Grim=4-1, Hallam=5, Nat=2, Troll4=4). Hallam thrusts first (1d20=7) but his sword is turned on the Troll's hide, but even so it is enough to draw the monster off poor Vestri. Instead it turns violently bellowing, and attacks (1-2=Grim, 3-4=Hallam, 5-6=Nat; 1d6=2) the Dunderling Grim (1d20=15) smiting the axeman (4dd=6,6,2,1) brutally in the face before he even swings his two-handed cleaver, dealing a critical 14 hit points. Woe! Grim's helm is split, his skull crushed and he crumples to the ground. Nat counters immediately from the Troll's flank (1d20=17) and this time his flail hits home (2dd=3,3) for 6 hit points!
Meanwhile, in a moment of boldness, Eremin sidles around the massive pillar and snatches Vestri right out form behind the Troll's flailing fists.
Nearby, a second melee expounds shouting, ringing steel, bellowing Trolls and crashing flags resound in the great West Hall.
Initiative is rolled (Norin=1, Barald=3, Soval=3, Elindir=1, Horned Troll=4). The monstrous armoured Troll gives an leap and dashes it huge, spiked-gauntlet fist (1=Norin, 2=Barald, 3=Soval, 4=Elindir; 1d4=2) unexpectedly at Barlad the Old Woodsman of Mirkmood who has only now moved up to support Norin (1d20=12) and the blow (4dd=4,1,3,6) splinters Barald's shield wholly asunder (8 hit points) and knocks the old fighting-Man back. Then Norin, Soval, Elindir and Barald reply (1d20=3,1,3,3) but Soval trips and sprawls onto his back as the monster presses in, lashing wildly, and none of Norin, Elindir nor Barald's attacks even test its hardy scales.
Sili, Dernfara and Eohild contest with the other monster as Legandir and Lomeluin sling their bows draw Elvish blades, and Telthalion skirts the combat, looking for a safe shot.
Initiative is rolled (Sili=2, Dernfara=3, Eohild=6, Troll=4). Eohild has the initiative and plunges with her spear (1d20=6) but her thrust is turned aside, and the Troll retaliates (1-2=Sili, 3-4=Dernfara, 5-6=Eohild; 1d6=1) targeting Sili (1d20=19) ferociously, cracking him a (4dd=2,5,1,3) ringing blow across this head for 7 hit points. Now Dwarf and Man riposte (1d20=9,8) but again the Troll's armour is simply too hard to be pierced.

Sadness comes over Soval as he sees Grim fall. A good man, he thinks. Battle takes too many such from us.
"Einar! Join Hallam! We'll take this monster," he calls out, scrambling to his feet as best he can. If he can up quickly and strike the foe adjacent while keeping the lantern secure, he will, otherwise he will rise more slowly and take a defensive posture, hoping that others will join him in battle as he rejoins the fray.
