Maloof, alerted by Naillus to something going on, rejoins the party.

Do you go into the gargoyle room to investigate, or stay in the hall?

Franklin draws his sword and stands near Nailus. If Nailus fires his wand then Franklin would, at that point, step forward so Nailus isn't standing in the front rank.

If we have time, the party could attempt to retreat around the corner to hide from sight (where Maloof was previously) and then Maloof could watch (invisibly) from the corridor to see what emerges into the gargoyle room.

That sounds like a decent plan. Naillus would agree with it,

It looks like they're heading towards us! Maloof quickly whispers what he sees to the others.

I think we'll either need to confront them, or slip into the web-room and hope (A) there are no spiders alive in there and (B) they don't follow us, otherwise we may have two fights on our hands simultaneously! I think we're better off confronting them now before they get any closer. If they are wraiths, Aldbane might be able to turn them. EDIT: Checking the DD table, wraiths are an automatic turn by C6 (if they are wraiths!)

Maloof has some Holy Water, he'll prepare one in readiness in case we decide to fight.

Naillus will whisper urgently, "what the? what are those?"

He will still be prepare to use his wand.
