"We should open these," says Highbough. "If there be Vampyre within, better to stake them in their sleep than have them stand between us and the exit. This third vault proves to be much deeper than anticipated. The first double row of upright sarcophagi end after six pairs of the bulky things have been passed -- each bearing the likeness of a grim knight upon its stone face. Fully half of these remain silently sealed.
Meanwhile, Dorgan picks up a few of the loose coins and turns them over in his hand. Highbough gives several of the coffers a good looking over. The stone is old, cold, pocked and dusty. The lid of each is graven unto the appearance of a knight of malign aspect in full armour. There are lichens and molds growing in some of the crevices about these carvings. But there are no scripts to be seen...mushgnome wrote: He studies the sarcophagi and statue for inscriptions, runes, markings. Observing the gold, he ponders, "This will purchase any number of replacement halflings and holy men..."
