Yes, indeed. Rest is a most bountiful salve.

"Let us take shelter in the ogre's lair," Ulric says. "It may not be clean, but it should be defensible. At any rate their may be something worth all this death inside."

Ulric helps move the bodies of Anwyn and Michele into the ogre's lair. Once this is done he sets about exploring the chamber, using his lantern to illuminate the shadowy areas.

"It seems that we are not alone," he says on seeing the hunched figure chained to the wall. "Do you know this one Pelenwin?"

Ulric moves to get a better look at the person. "My friend, are you well?"

The venerable Elf chained to the wall does not, unfortunately, look well at all. He is clearly malnourished, dehydrated, and wracked with pain. Yet, his eyes burn bright with the fires of rage.

This mysterious cipher points his chin towards one of the back passageways and croaks, in the Common tongue, "It went... that way!"

He spits on the floor and unleashes a barrage of ancient and hateful words. Anyone in earshot who understands Elvish will hear of the brutal revenge he plans against his Ogrish captors, if these strangers will please release him.

Well, Dieter for one will sit down with his back to the wall and his sword across his knees.

This is definitely not the best he's ever felt.

If he can bind any of his wounds, bandage them, etc., he'll do so. Otherwise he'll just rest.

"We need to regroup to a more more defensible position. I do not want to be caught in a trap again. Remember they know we are here. Lets move into the adjacent chamber and post guards at the entrances", says Padrig.

Padrig will retrieve his bow and torch left in the passageway corner once the fire dies down.

OOC: Can rest still heal Olaf for the hit points lost in battle not healed by magic? I have 2 healing spells left and will use them when needed most.
OOC: If Olaf gets some time to rest, I think he'll get up to 1d6 HP recovery...as will Dieter, Mads, etc. We probably should do that, too.

Olaf nods at Padrig's suggestion, "I want that Ogre dead, but I could sure use a bit of rest before we go up against him again."

"And who was that person he said he'd broken his truce with...Seaver, or something like that? Do you think that means there is another camp of villains in the vicinity?"

Very Well.

Padrig recovers his guttering, nearly spent torch from the passage way, while Ulric drags the broken bodies of Michele and Anwyn into the Ogre's lair. Flewellen's corpse remains downstairs.

"I don't like the pong of that," grumbles Thorgrim, indicating the great fuming cook-pot of the former residents, with the barest tilt of his head as he eyes the state of the large chamber.

Gustave is still poking at the Ogres' stores as the other move in and make themselves known to the ancient Elf who remains chained to the wall at the rear of the cluttered room.

Dieter, Mads and Olaf, seeing that their war-craft is no longer required, thankfully let themselves down to rest their tired bodies, to clean their wounds, and straighten loosed and damaged armour.

Thorgrim plonks himself near the two dark tunnels at the rear of the chamber, his keen Dwarfish eyes glinting in the dark. "I'll keep watch up here," he says.

--
The three fighting-Men are resting.
Thorgrim is on watch at the far end of the room.

What now?

Noticing that nobody checked, Andaros will search the crates, barrels and chests in the chamber. He will poke all of the containers with his mace (or with a 10' pole, if someone has one and is willing to lend it to me) before touching them. Anything interesting or of value?

Andaros moves across the room, past the smoldering cook-pot and the filthy Ogre pallets to the stores where he and Gustave poke and prod at the loot.

There is indeed quite a stash of victuals fit for the indescriminant diner. These include a barrel half full of salted and dried lizards, fish, snakes and toads -- the smell of which is nearly enough to turn a Man's gullet. Also there are the skinned carcasses of two goats, an aligator, and two unfortunate Men not looking in the least well preserved. Stacked against the wall behind these is a large basket containing dry loaves of a grey bread and a half eaten wheel of a hard, but none the less pongy cheese. Beside this pile stand two small kegs of a coarse liquor and a larger barrel of a crude beer, and a large open crate containing a considerable supply of grubby root vegetables.

Besides the food stuffs there is a considerable pile of animal furs, tusks, and skins, as well as two chests of considerable girth. One of them has been smashed open with an axe, and the larger portion of its volume is empty. The remainder contains a litter of silver and copper coins -- perhaps a hundred or so all told.

The second chest is draped over with a suit of brandished white chainmail armour and matching helm which are graven with copper banding writ with etchings. Nearby are also a stout pole axe, mace, and a backpack. Discarded on the grimy floor is a glorious white leather bound tome proclaiming itself to be The Innocent Opus.

Nearby are also The Cypher's possessions; his supple black leather armour, backpack, daggers, bedroll and a waxed satchel containing The Infernal Amicus, an ancient tome bound between thick covers of black velvet, and held fast by a silver buckle upon a belt of supple black suede.

Quite a find...

Mads now has 5 of 9 hit points.
Olaf now has 6 of 10 hit points.

In fact all of you are bone weary after a long days' march and a further hour deadly of dungeoneering. Dusk must be well gone by now... a meal and a night's rest would be most welcomed by all of you -- especially Highbough, who remains chained.
