Nidhogg scampers up the ramp and dives for the cover of the two bulky chests, not daring to divert his course for the dagger that nicked him. Behind, his spiteful opponent drops to one knee, and swearing curses upon the turncoat race of Dwarfs hurls another knife (1d20=19) this time (1dd=2) the hilt of the missile knocking Nidhogg on the back of his skull for 2 hit-points just as he dives behind the cover of the chests where Ulric and Olaf squat.
These two return fire at the knaves (1d20; Ulric=14, Olaf=4) but for Nidhogg partially obscuring his sight of the battlefield Olaf's shot flies wide, but Ulric's sling stone finds better purchase (1dd=3) ringing Nighogg's pursurer squarely on the noggin for 3 hit points, dazing him.
Two more knaves in the dark ravine, still equipped with bows, let fly their volley of missiles at those upon the ledge. (Determine targets 1-3=Ulric, 4-6=Olaf; 2d6=4, 4) Both target Olaf (2d20=19, 1) but one missile spills hopelessly off the string before it is even launched. The other is straight and deadly, striking Olaf high upon the shoulder even as he returns to the sturdy cover of the chest after loosing his own missile. Olaf suffers (1dd=4) 4 hit points! And at that very moment Highbough appears at the dunjon door -- as if out of thin air -- and launches his spear mightily at the knave who pierced Olaf (1d20=4) but even with the advantage of surprise his heavy missile flies wide, thudding into the rocky ground a foot wide of the knave to stand quivering there beside him.
Highbough heeds not his errant throw, swiftly assisting Gustave by pulling free the arrow that was wedged in the back of his armoured shirt as the fighting Man appraises himself of Highbough's daggers.
Meanwhile, Andaros and Thorgrim crash into the pair of knaves who quickly dump their bows to whip out jagged edged daggers from their belts. Initiative is rolled (1d6; Thorgrim=5, Andaros=1, 1st Knave=4, 2nd Knave=6).
Thorgrim rants on about hurts done to his beard as he charges the nearest knave with axe raised (1d20=3) but the fellow is cunning and deft of foot and easily side-steps the onrushing Dwarf, then counters with his own swift dagger thrust (1d20=12) but this is turned aside at the last by stout Dwarfish mail.
Andaros has more ground to cover, and his opponent is more prepared, leaping into a counter charge at the last moment and somehow getting inside the long-haired warrior's swing (1d20=12), but not quite swiftly enough. His stab and back slashing attack is parried, leaving him hopelessly exposed to Andaros' heavy counter swing (1d20=20!) which lands with telling force (3dd=1,1,4) causing a staggering 5 hit points of damage. The knave is greviously injured, but not slain!
