Hmmm....Maybe delete the cookie for the site, there could in theory be an issue with the PHP Original Session ID from the old machine on the new machine. That's one thing I didn't rsync across.

Yeah I see what you mean... I did just truncate the phpbb sessions tables, which would force everyone to login in again. When I tried to login it kept failing, I finally did what you did and used the reset password. Which worked.
I hope I didn't just create a headache for everyone but such is life.

I might have found the issue... Seems phpbb uses argon2 hashing and I had not installed libargon2 , I have now but not sure that it will just fix it...
